Biography

William Henry Lippincott (1849–1920) was an American painter who trained at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He began his professional life as a commercial artist, working as an illustrator and scene designer. Lippincott's paintings often featured women and children in domestic interiors, sharing certain formal similarities with the Barbizon school painters.

He established his reputation with somewhat sentimental genre paintings that typically depicted everyday life. The artist's work was characterized by its focus on bourgeois and domestic subject matter. Lippincott eventually settled in New York City and taught at the National Academy of Design.
