Biography
Paul Lewis Clemens (1911–1992) was an American painter known for his portraits of film stars. He began painting for the Works Progress Administration during the Depression era and later moved to Los Angeles, where he spent most of his career. In 1942, the Durand Ruel galleries mounted a solo show of his paintings, marking the first time an American artist had been featured in such a way since 1895.
Clemens' work was also featured in Life magazine, where he met his second wife, actress Eleanor Parker.
