Biography

Manuel Orazi (1860-1934) was an Italian Art Nouveau illustrator, poster artist, jewelry designer, and set creator for theater and film. Born in Rome, his early life is obscure. He was married to Marie Agnan and lived in Paris. Sympathetic to the French Decadent movement, Symbolism, and Aestheticism, he created the Calendrier Magique in 1895 and provided illustrations and typographic ornaments for numerous literary works, including books by Jean Lorrain, Gaston Paris, and Baudelaire.

He illustrated a French edition of Oscar Wilde's Salome. His jewelry designs were shown at Maison de l'Art Nouveau and sold at La Maison Moderne, for which he also designed a notable poster. He produced a poster for Loie Fuller's theater at the 1900 Universal Exposition. In 1921, he designed sets and costumes for the silent film L'Atlantide.

His work appeared in magazines such as L'Assiette au Beurre and Les Maîtres de l'Affiche.
