James McLaughlin

James McLaughlin (1909–1982) was an American painter known for his genre, figure, and still-life paintings. Born on January 4, 1909, in Louisville, KY, he studied at the Phillips Memorial Gallery School. McLaughlin's career with The Phillips Collection spanned forty-nine years, during which he played an active role in the museum and was often referred to as 'the heart and soul of the place'.

His artwork is characterized by simple yet bold elements in a modern style, evident in his artist signature on oil paintings such as still life scenes.
