Biography

Frank Stick (1884–1966) was an American painter, author, conservationist, and developer. He was born in Huron, South Dakota, to David L. and Lydia Jane Marcellus Stick. Stick studied at the Chicago Art Institute and under Howard Pyle before building a studio in Interlaken, New Jersey. His original paintings appeared on calendars and magazine covers, including Field and Stream.

In 1929, he settled his family on Roanoke Island and helped establish the first national wildlife refuge.
