Biography
Charles Melville Dewey (1849–1937) was an American painter. Born in Lowville, New York, he faced significant health challenges that shaped both his life and work. Confined to his bed from his twelfth to his seventeenth year by a hip disease, he formed the poetic conception of nature which appears in his pictures.
Dewey is best known for his atmospheric landscapes, which drew critical praise from his contemporaries.
