Biography

Charles Henry Niehaus (1855–1935) was an American painter and sculptor. He was sent to Munich in 1877 to be trained as a sculptor. Niehaus created important relief sculptures for the Connecticut State Capitol sculpture program, including large tympana and roundels on the East facade. His works were highly renowned for their capturing of realistic forms and ability to depict life-like emotion.
