Techniques
How They Painted
Bout painted in a style reminiscent of earlier Flemish masters such as Jan Brueghel the Elder. His palette was clear and soft, foreshadowing the 18th century, and his brushwork was precise. His works often include lively scenes like village festivals and people on ice, and he also produced Italianate landscapes in the manner of Nicolaes Berchem.
